2013 Fantasy Baseball: 2B Brian Roberts Showing He Still Has Value

Joy R. Absalon-USA TODAY Sports

When the fantasy baseball season started not many people had faith in Baltimore Orioles 2B Brian Roberts.  The 35-year-old second baseman has been plagued by injuries in recent seasons and was already slatted to miss a large chunk of the season.

However, Roberts has become a very respectable option over the last several weeks. He currently has a less than stellar .257 batting average on the year, but he has a decent .283 average this month to go along with a .364 On Base Percentage. He has been tearing the cover off the ball in August and has once again become an everyday starter.

Roberts is also hitting in one of the deadliest lineups in baseball. Baltimore is currently fourth in the league with 596 runs scored and the team has some of the best heavy-hitters in the game. B-Rob has driven home 23 runs in 44 games this season despite hitting in the eight-spot, but the fact that the team has such accomplished sluggers in front of him has only helped Roberts get more RBI opportunities. The veteran will get to come to the plate often with the bases full, so all he needs to do is simply put the ball in play to have a fantasy impact.

Roberts will be a reliable second baseman to start down the stretch. The fantasy playoffs are coming up next week and the veteran couldn’t be playing better.
