Underrated and Overrated New York Jets Players Heading Into Fantasy Drafts

Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Mark Sanchez-Geno Smith quarterback battle continues to rage on but the New York Jets‘ pass offense is dealing with a low ceiling regardless. That doesn’t mean fantasy-draft values don’t exist on this roster.

(The following analysis is based on FantasyPros aggregate average draft position drawn from major websites. The first number in parenthesis is ADP overall in a non-PPR redraft format; the second is ADP by position. I am not saying these players will be terrible or amazing, just that I see them significantly outperforming or underperforming their fantasy value at the current ADP.)

Underrated: Jets Team Defense (232, 20), Jeremy Kerley (262, 86)

Wow, it feels like ages ago that Rex Ryan‘s units were a perennial lock for top-five ADP among team defenses, but my how the mighty have fallen. I think the hate has gone too far here at No. 20, as Ryan can still scheme up a defense and this unit might be loaded at line and outside backer. As much of a horror show as New York’s offense was last year, Kerley remained a reliable target and even topped 800 yards, which could find him a roster spot in deeper leagues.

Overrated: Santonio Holmes (235, 76), Chris Ivory (71, 29)

The mounting news focusing on Holmes allegedly “milking” his injury while the Jets sit an offseason away from being able to realistically cut him gives so much reason to not draft him at all, making even the 76th receiver ranking too high. There are just too many questions around whether he can even work into this offense again. Ivory’s hovered around 5 yards per carry through his chances in spot duty but has yet to prove himself as the featured back. The jury’s out for me and he doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence as even a starting flex in 12-teamers.
