2013 Fantasy Football: Week 3 All-Fantasy Team

Drew Brees

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The third week of fantasy football is in the books. There were some clear busts, like Dwayne Bowe or Owen Daniels. There were some surprises, like Geno Smith throwing for 331 yards and two touchdowns. I provide for you the week three All Fantasy Team for the third week top performers.

Note: This does not include players from the Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos game. If someone goes nuts and surpasses anyone on this list, I will make sure to get everyone an update. I suspect the Peyton Manning could make a run for the top spot this week, however.

Quarterback: Drew Brees

Anyone still worried about the New Orleans Saints offense? After a lackluster game by his standards in week two, Brees was up to par on Sunday. He threw for 342 yards, but earned the top spot this week on the strength of three passing and one rushing touchdowns.

Wide Receivers: Antonio Brown & Santonio Holmes

Brown was complaining about not getting the targets this week and proved he had a point, hauling in nine of 11 targets for 196 yards and two touchdowns. You might not get a better chance to sell high on Brown than the one you do now. However, he should be the focal point of the Pittsburgh Steelers offense until Le’Veon Bell returns.

From a current Steelers receiver to a former, Holmes gets the nod after a five catch, 154 yard day. In addition to finding the end zone, Holmes made several great catches where his adjustments masked poor throws by Geno Smith. With the emergence of Smith and Stephen Hill, the New York Jets offense is no longer the worst in the league.

Running Backs: DeMarco Murray & Jamaal Charles

Something about playing the St. Louis Rams makes Murray elevate his game. Last time, he set the Dallas Cowboys single game rushing record. This time, he didn’t set any records, but 175 rushing yards, 28 through the air and a touchdown is a stat line any fantasy owner would take. Murray owners now have a difficult decision on their hands. The brittle back has had his share of injury problems, so now could be a great time to sell high, but there are some very enticing matchups over the next month of the season.

One of those matchups Murray has on the horizon is the Philadelphia Eagles, which were completely abused by Charles on Thursday night. Mean green couldn’t contain KCJC (I wonder if that will catch on…) as Charles rushed for 92 yards, caught seven passes for another 80 and scored a touchdown. Ride the hot back, as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the New York Giants next week, who are 27th this season against the run.

Tight End: Jimmy Graham

While Jordan Cameron’s three touchdowns were certainly impressive, Graham gets the top spot for the second consecutive week on the strength of his nine catch, 134 yard, two touchdown day. He is the top tight end in fantasy without question.

Kicker: Justin Tucker

Tucker kicked in two from more than 40 yards along with a 28 yard chip shot. He also nailed all three point after attempts. He should be one of the top fantasy kicker options playing on a team that can move the ball, but might struggle to find the end zone. Start him with confidence.

Defense/Special Teams: Baltimore Ravens

This was the hardest call of the week. The Carolina Panthers pitched a shutout. The Jets had eight sacks. I had to give it to the Ravens, as hey held the Houston Texans to nine points, had three sacks and one pick six. If that wasn’t enough, they had 146 return yards including an 82 yard punt return for a touchdown by Tandon Doss. The champs might be back.

As always, I welcome your comments. If you think I’m wrong, I’m willing to listen. Just back it up with some facts and solid evidence. Thanks for reading and good luck this season.
