Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Add D Jacob Trouba

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

In the last several days, there has been a lot of buzz swirling around defenseman Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets. In the 19-year-old’s NHL debut, the defenseman scored a goal and added an assist in the team’s opening night 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers. Trouba has seen his fantasy hockey stock skyrocket as a result and he has quickly become one of the most added players this past week.

Trouba was selected ninth overall in the first round of this past year’s entry draft and he is one of the best young blue-liners in the game. In his brief professional stint, the rookie has looked confident and very quick behind the line. He is extremely aggressive, and besides finishing his checks, he is also quick enough to consistently make a difference on the offensive end of the ice as well.

Trouba has quickly shown that he can help the team offensively and he could potentially put together a 15-goal season if he stays healthy. Winnipeg desperately needs some life from their young squad, and the fact that the teenager has performed so well in his debut, will almost ensure his longterm spot with the team. Trouba will also get to learn from defender, Dustin Byfuglien, and the All-Star tutelage will only help the rookie fine tune his ability.

If the Trouba-maker is on the waiver wire in your dynasty league, pick him up this week before your competition does and you never see him again.
