David Wilson (neck) is going to avoid surgery and other fantasy experts are posing this as a positive down the road, as if he will have fantasy value this year. He won’t. I don’t care about the depth of your league or the scoring format, I’m perfectly fine if you cut ties with this disappointing college track star and never look pack.

Wilson is expected to return to the Giants backfield in 3-4 weeks, but what will his role be? Not only did Brandon Jacobs look like the New York Giants’ franchise leader in rushing touchdowns last week, but the promising Andre Brown (leg) will be close to returning at that point. While he is not a threat to take the feature role, he will surely demand at least a handful of carries.

Wilson has done nothing to earn a lead role (or anything more than a handful of carries for that game), as he was averaging 3.3 yards per carry with more fumbles lost than touchdowns and only made two catches in five games. He was supposed to be an explosive athlete with the ability to be dynamic in the open field, but the combination of ball security issues and the Giants’ inability to block consistently has led only to disappointment for the G-men and his fantasy owners.

Obviously if New York doesn’t view Wilson as part of their future, it is hard to imagine them giving him much of a workload down the stretch, but I don’t think they will give him many touches even if they do want him to be the future of this backfield. The Giants are currently 0-6 and with the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and San Diego Chargers still on the schedule, New York isn’t going to play another meaningful game this season.

So if they want Wilson to lead their team in the future, why risk his health in games that don’t mean anything?

I’m cutting Wilson and freeing up a valuable roster spot. He’s owned in 62 percent of Yahoo! leagues, but I’d rather own Joseph Randle (43 percent), Andre Ellington (46 percent), or Willis McGahee (51 percent).
