Fantasy Basketball: PG D.J. Augustin Heating up

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

When the 2013-14 fantasy basketball season tipped off, everyone expected the Chicago Bulls point guard position to be a lock. PG Derrick Rose was reportedly 100% healthy following his torn ACL and was expected to have another huge fantasy campaign.

Unfortunately, D-Rose once again went down with a horrendous knee injury and it left the fantasy world speechless. It didn’t take long for reports to come out that Rose tore the medial meniscus in his right knee and the All-Star would once again have to shut it down for the year.

The team quickly needed someone to step up in Rose’s absence and surprisingly the player that has made the most noise at the point has been D.J. Augustin. The veteran was claimed off waivers by Chicago on December 13th, after being waived by the Toronto Raptorsand he has filled his role perfectly within the offense.

Over the last six games in particular, Augustin has really started to heat up. He is posting 19.2 points per game to go along with a respectable 6 assists and 3.3 triples. He has quietly become a reliable fantasy asset and is just another free agent point guard that has become a weekly contributor for fantasy fans.

Augustin may not be a household name just yet, but he has more than shown that he can be fill the box score each night. Consider him to be a PG3 with plenty of upside moving forward.
