J.C. Gutierrez is Great Waiver Wire pick-up for Los Angeles Angels

J.C. Gutierrez

The Los Angeles Angels have been unable to make much progress, if any, in the pennant or wildcard race in the American League. That should lead them to consider a big trade season but instead they made a low profile trade with the Kansas City Royals. It wasn’t a trade at all actually. It was a waivers deal and a good one for the Angels as they picked up J.C. Gutierrez.

Gutierrez is a right-handed relief pitcher that the Angels claimed off of waivers from the Royals. It is exactly the process that a good GM will use to quietly move players around. Rarely do such deals warrant big news but this one is a good one for the Angels. Gutierrez has had his struggles here and there but for the most part is a quick fix for the Angels bullpen.

His first two outings have seemingly proved that he has a great deal to offer this team. The ‘pen of the Angels isn’t exactly talked about all over MLB and this deal will not change them that much. Simply put, it is a great waivers deal that the Angels fans should be proud of. This is the kind of acquisition that can make a surprise difference that is felt all around the clubhouse. Hopefully he will continue being a good reliever and a good clubhouse presence as well. All around this is a good waiver pick-up for the Angels.
