One of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ top minor league prospects, Corey Seager, is making a name for himself as he rises up through the Dodgers’ farm system.

In 2012, the right-handed shortstop started out with the Ogden Raptors in the Rookie League. In 46 games with the Raptors, Seager hit eight home runs and smacked in 33 RBIs. With a batting average of .309 and a solid partial season, the Dodgers organization felt confident enough in Seager’s performance to promote the 6-foot-4 infielder to their Single-A affiliate.

At the start of the 2013 season, Seager began playing with the Great Lakes Loons. At only 19 years of age, Seager’s time with the Loons seemed just as promising as his time with the Raptors. Seager again hit .309, but this time added 12 home runs and 57 RBIs in 74 games. These numbers are a good sign for the Dodgers as Seager is proving to have the pop of a big swinger with the ability to hit for average as well.

After playing a partial season for the Loons, Seager’s impressive play earned him a call up to the High-A club, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. On August 2, Seager moved up and, according to the Quakes’ official Twitter account, became the youngest player currently in all of High-A baseball.

During Thursday night’s game, Seager got his first home run with the Quakes. The Dodgers will be hoping this is just the first of many for the young infielder, but the great news does not just stop with Seager’s bat.

Mark Anderson of baseballprospectnation.com rated Seager very highly at the beginning of this year and said his arm is the shortstop’s best tool. Anderson noted that Seager can make all the shortstop plays and could probably make a transfer to play third as well. With an aging Juan Uribe at third and a star in Hanley Ramirez playing shortstop, the Dodgers could look to use Seager as a replacement when Uribe leaves.

This rapid promotion through both the Dodgers’ Rookie League and Single-A clubs is a great sign. Seager was the Dodgers’ first round draft pick in the 2012 June Amateur Draft, and the selection is turning out to be a smart one.
