Milwaukee Brewers Did Their Part to Keep N.L. Central Race Close

Milwaukee Brewers

For the few positive things around the Milwaukee Brewers right now, they do have a few bragging rights. Of course they have a few good prospects and good ideas about what they’ll do with key players going into the 2014 season but this isn’t that. Though they lost the series with the St. Louis Cardinals, they did put a crimp in the Cardinals division title plans with a hardnosed win on Sunday.

Thanks to the Brewers the Cardinals are still only 2.5 games up on both the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The role of spoiler isn’t always what it is cracked up to be since usually a team that spoils another team’s playoff hopes generally isn’t playing that well. Which team had the better record didn’t matter on Sunday night however as they really did show the Cardinals that the Brewers are hard to beat no matter how far out of the playoff race they are.

Offseason signings and trades are all exciting to some degree but I believe little things like this win are going to be the big things that take a team like the Brewers into 2014 with a little bit of momentum. They can go into that season knowing that they were good enough to do their part to keep the Cardinals from running away in the final week of the season before. For whatever it will be worth then, it surely matters a great deal right now.
