5 Reasons for New York Mets Fans to Be Thankful Heading into 2014
It has been quite a while since the New York Mets have given their fans something as a team that they could be thankful for and proud of. Sure there are players here and there and everyone can be proud of their past players that have shown up on hall-of-fame ballots but when it comes to seasons and results, there is little reason for any fan to be very thankful of late.
Going into the 2014 season however things are a little bit different. More detail will come with each slide in this slideshow but suffice it to say that the landscape has changed a little bit for the Mets and it could lead to them instantly being more competitive in the National League East. For sure they should be better than they have been in seasons past. I don’t know what any fan could hope for more than that anyway.
It has been a while since Mets fans could realistically have a lot of thankful hope going into the year but I believe the upcoming 2014 season will be different in that way. What follows are the five top reasons that Mets fans can allow themselves to be thankful heading into the 2014 season. 5 – Chris Young
Young might not look like the next MVP but his signing is a good one for the Mets. They could still use some assistance in the outfield but with every little bit of help they give David Wright, this team gets that much better. Young is a good signing.
4 – Money Available
For the first time in years there has been enough money freed up this offseason that the Mets can actually feel comfortable going after free agents. They are sure to be careful in who they sign and for how long because of how badly things went the last few years but they are in position at last to decide what to do with extra salary room instead of fantasizing about it.
3 – Matt Harvey
It probably seems odd to put Harvey on here as something to look forward to heading into a season that he will not pitch in. The point of what to look forward to is actually just that. The fans should be thankful that they won’t see Harvey this season because that means instead of ruining more time, he will only miss this season and will be strong and ready for the season after it.
2 – Jon Niese
With Harvey gone, Niese figures to be one of the main figures in the Mets starting rotation. He is nowhere near a Harvey level right now but the way he pitched recently at least shows that he is capable.
1 – David Wright
It doesn’t matter how injured he was this past season. It doesn’t matter if his stats were a little bit down. None of that matters on a year to year basis. Wright is simply one of the best players in all of baseball and all Mets fans should be thankful for that going into this season and every other one.
