Kansas City Royals’ Bullpen Spectacular Again In Game 3 Win

Game 3 of the World Series was headlined by two veteran starting pitchers. Jeremy Guthrie (35) took the mound for the Kansas City Royals, while Tim Hudson (39) toed the rubber for the San Francisco Giants. It was certainly a game where both pitchers weren’t expected to go much past the 5th inning. For the Royals, it was a game like many this season where they were just hoping to get to their bullpen with the lead.

With more outstanding defense, timely hitting and a solid outing from Guthrie, they did just that. The veteran RHP made it through five innings while allowing just two runs. From there, the KC bullpen lived up to the hype by not allowing a hit. The Giants were simply shut down over the last four innings, outside of a couple walks from Kelvin Herrera.

This KC bullpen is as good as advertised, that’s for sure. 21-year old Brandon Finnegan could be a star in the making, Wade Davis has been a star all season and Greg Holland has now saved 27 straight games.

But as big as the Game 3 win was for the Royals, we all know the Giants aren’t dead yet. Being down 1-2 is not going to faze this group of playoff-tested and approved players.

There’s been a little chatter of Madison Bumgarner possibly getting the start Saturday night on three days rest. It’s a move Bruce Bochy could pull, and no one would really second guess him. Bumgarner has been on fire lately, and there’s always something to be said for playing your best players in the biggest games, even if they’re not 100 percent.
