It appears that the Los Angeles Dodgers are counting their blessings after the club narrowly averted a huge disaster. Outfielder Yasiel Puig and second baseman Howie Kendrick collided as the two chased a pop fly in a Cactus League game on Thursday evening, and initially it appeared that Puig was pretty banged up in the head and neck area as he was removed from the game. Apparently, however, it was just a precaution. According to reports, Puig is fine.
Puig hit in throat/neck area and taken out as a precaution. He’s fine.

The Dodgers better hope so, because let’s be honest: After getting rid of Matt Kemp and whatever is going on with Andre Ethier, losing Puig would be the absolute worst thing that could happen to this franchise currently. Sure, Joc Pederson is going to contribute in 2015, but he’s still a rookie and meant to be a complement to Puig, not replace his production in any way. That would be far too tall of an order to ask from a player in his first MLB campaign no matter how talented he already is upon arrival.
It wouldn’t be shocking to hear that the Dodgers have Puig put through concussion tests just to be extra careful with their young star. Puig is one of the most exciting players in MLB, and it would be a shame for him to not be able to take the field on opening day because of a random pop-up in a meaningless exhibition game.
