We head into the dog days of summer and can expect not only the temperatures to rise, but the rumors to rev up too. Here are five Cincinnati Reds rumors to keep an eye on as June gets underway.

Devin Mesoraco has been limited to a .181 average in just 23 games this season to a hip impingement. He recently was put on the 15-day disabled list, but some are growing weary of the injury and believe Mesoraco might eventually opt to undergo season-ending surgery to repair it.

Bruce is nearing the end of his six-year, $ 51 million deal he signed back in 2011. The issue is that the production he has contributed (or lack thereof) is not worth the money he is being paid. The Reds will want to shed some money off their books, so Bruce may be out as a side piece in a Cueto or Chapman deal.

Mike Leake has been overall effective this season and is seen largely as a “Plan B” to Cueto. With a 2-4 record and 4.66 ERA, Leake will not command a king’s ransom of a package to acquire him.

Chapman has been his dominant self this season, but like Cueto, he will be hard to retain when he becomes a free agent. Chapman’s name has been linked to both the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Cueto has been the Reds’ ace his entire career, producing an 88-61 record and a 3.26 ERA. His numbers have been outstanding, but they have also driven up his cost, most likely out of the Reds’ price range. For this reason and the poor performance by the team so far, Cueto looks to be on his way out. The Reds hope to get something out of him rather than let him walk after the season when he becomes a free agent.
