After adding three outfielders prior to the MLB non-waiver trade deadline, the Los Angeles Angels now wish they’d added another arm to the rotation. In what can only be described as a devastating development, it appears LHP C.J. Wilson will be lost for the remainder of the 2015 campaign to elbow surgery.
Angels CJ Wilson will have the same surgery he had after ’08 and ’12 seasons. He bounced back well from both of those.

Wilson is one of the most underrated southpaws in the game today. This season, in 21 starts, Wilson is 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA and adequate 1.24 WHIP. Wilson’s provided tremendous reliability for the Angels, as he’d made over 30 starts in all of his first three seasons in Anaheim.
It is fair to assume Angels interim GM Bill Stoneman knew losing Wilson was at least a possibility, which makes the Angels’ inactivity in the pitching market over the past week absolutely puzzling. At 55-47, the Angels sit just two games back of the Houston Astros for the AL West and lead the AL for the first wild card spot.
Sure, Los Angeles can still acquire a pitcher on the waiver wire, but when you’re in such a heated pennant race, and your main rival (Houston) is making moves left and right to ensure your demise, a lax approach is not the best strategy.
