If you are a Boston Red Sox fan, it has to be killing you that for a second offseason your baseball team is done and you are probably watching other teams you have absolutely no interest in, if you are watching baseball at all. Although, there is always the Chicago Cubs.

This season was particularly frustrating because if Boston had been able to get some sort of ace last winter, they probably would have been able to at least contend for the second wild card. Not only that, Ben Cherington might still have his job. Now, it is very obvious that Boston needs to go out and get quality starting pitching if they have any chance of competing next season.

It is also obvious that at this moment, Boston has no idea what to do when it comes to drafting and developing young starting pitchers. This is an organization that hasn’t had a homegrown starting pitcher make any sort of impact since Clay Buchholz. Boston needs to be taking a good, long look at the New York Mets.

The Mets are the envy of every other team in baseball with their young pitchers. Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom and Steven Matz are four of the brightest stars and they are showing so far in the NLCS that good pitching will always dominate in October. New York was incredibly smart to hold on to every one of those pitchers. They are absolutely reaping the benefits of those decisions right now.

Boston recently made Brian Bannister their pitching guru. He has a lot of great ideas and could finally put Boston back on the map when it comes to pitching. Hopefully, he is looking long and hard at the Mets to see what their secrets to success are.
