Yoel Romero UFC

Joshua Lindsey USA TODAY Sports

A pivotal matchup takes place in the middleweight division between Yoel Romero and Derek Brunson. Both possess finishing abilities on the feet, so it’s going to be an amazing fight between two elite fighters. The winner puts their name right up there with the best of them in the division, a division that is currently being dominated by Chris Weidman.

Romero comes into this bout off a sterling win against Ronny Markes. For three straight rounds, Romero dominated the feet, even though he possessed the superior wrestling. Despite being an Olympic wrestler, Romero decided to finish on the feet, and he got the finish in the third round. It was his second straight win in the UFC, and Romero is proving to be a viable contender, whether he’s on the feet or on the ground.

Brunson comes into this bout off an impressive finish against Brian Houston. Brunson rocked Houston on the feet, and then he finished it up with an impressive submission. Brunson is on a two-fight winning streak, and if he can get one more, he’s going to make a statement, especially if he can finish off Romero.

Both fighters have a lot on the line in this fight, and it’s going to be a compelling bout from beginning to end. For Romero, his best path to victory is on the ground, as he’s probably the best wrestler in MMA right now. For Brunson, his best path to victory will be to finish Romero on the feet, as this is where Romero is most green.
