Yoel Romero is one of the best wrestlers in MMA. He is a former Cuba Olympic wrestler, having won silver in freestyle wrestling. Despite how amazing his wrestling credentials are, he’s been knocking out all of his opponents and finishing them off with strikes on the ground.

This was the case tonight when he faced Derek Brunson at UFC Fight Night. Brunson put up a valiant effort, and he even took Romero down several times, but it was Romero who poured it on in the third, getting the TKO stoppage. In the third, he landed some viscous elbows to the body, and Brunson wasn’t able to continue.

It was a sterling performance put on by Romero, and he’s a serious contender in the middleweight division now. Romero is now 7-1 in his fighting career. He’s still pretty green as far as mixed martial arts goes, but he’s improving every day in the stand up department, which bodes well for him for his future. This win was one of Romero’s biggest wins in the UFC, and he’s proving to be a tough outing for anyone in the middleweight division.

As far as his wrestling goes, it’s going to be hard for anyone to take him down. This gives him a huge advantage, and if he can make subtle adjustments in his striking game, making it more sharp and crisp, he’s going to be fighting for the title in a year’s time. Congrats to Romero on the dominate, impressive win over Brunson.
