Boston Celtics Need to Target Julius Randle in 2014 NBA Draft

Boston Celtics, Julius Randle

The Boston Celtics figure to have a high draft selection in the 2014 NBA Draft and they desperately need a star player to build around.

Fortunately, there figures to be a handful of players that can fit that description. The obvious target would be Kansas freshman forward Andrew Wiggins, but another guy that will draw a ton of interest is Kentucky freshman forward Julius Randle.

In most drafts, he would probably be the number one selection, but in this draft he will go anywhere from the second to fifth pick overall, mostly depending on team need and who else is available.

Randle would be a tremendous fit for the Celtics moving forward. He would be the team’s future at the power forward position and give the organization a second potential star player, assuming point guard Rajon Rondo is still with the franchise next summer.

Randle is a powerful lefty who has a wide array of post moves and has excellent athleticism as well. Pairing him with current rookie forward Kelly Olynyk would give the Celtics a solid front court rotation for the future. Olynyk would help space the floor for Randle with his outside shooting.

Randle is much more of a post player and has drawn a number of similarities to current Memphis Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph. Randolph has been a pretty nice player in this league for a long time and Randle might have even more potential in the prime of his career. Randle should be a 20-10 player after spending a few years in the league working on his skills.

Randle would be an excellent fit for the Celtics organization next summer.

Carmelo Anthony had a mismatch on Marcus Smart in the post, but Smart's flop was still a maneuver that went comically too far in an attempt to draw an offensive foul.
