Predicting the Dallas Mavericks’ Starting Five if LeBron James Signs

Devin Harris was very good for the Mavericks last season, particularly in the playoffs. He recently agreed to a discounted three-year, $ 9 million deal with Dallas and is a much better option to start at the point than Raymond Felton.

2013-14 was Monta Ellis' best season in quite a while, as he proved to be a great and multifaceted offensive threat alongside the sweet-shooting Dirk Nowitzki. Ellis' dynamic athleticism, playmaking and scoring ability would be incredibly exciting to watch with James — who shares all three of those traits with him — on the same team.

James would provide a stabilizing perimeter presence at the defensive end for a Mavericks team that looks to be quite weak in that respect without him. LeBron's penetration and passing is best-suited for a team with plenty of shooting ability, and Dallas just happens to have the best-shooting big man in basketball history.

The image of Nowitzki draining wide-open jumpers off of assists from James has to be pasted in Mavericks' fans heads at this point; it's just too attractive not to think about. There is no better player in the league than LeBron to take some of the pressure off of Nowitzki as he enters the twilight years of his career.

Tyson Chandler needed a change of scenery badly, and he got it when the New York Knicks sent him back to Dallas in a package with Felton. Chandler wasn't quite the same player in New York last season and has struggled with injuries, but perhaps a return to the team he won a championship with in 2011 will reinvigorate his game. Playing with the best player in the world wouldn't hurt.
