PG Steve Nash‘s tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers has been marred by injuries at every point, and it is now being reported that the point guard will miss the entire season due to nerve damage in his back.

“Being on the court this season has been my top priority and it is disappointing to not be able to do that right now,” said Nash in a press release by the Lakers. “I work very hard to stay healthy and unfortunately my recent setback makes performing at full capacity difficult. I will continue to support my team during this period of rest, and will focus on my long-term health.”

This is a real bummer, because it also seems like the inevitable ending to what has been a Hall-of-Fame career. He has never been fully healthy or effective during his time in Los Angeles, and it is kind of a shame that he could not find a way to stay fit the last three years.

We should all remember Nash far more for his two MVP seasons with the Phoenix Suns, because they were truly magical. If you were not a basketball fan at that time, then do yourself a favor and search for some YouTube clips tonight. You know what? I will make it a bit easier for you.

He has not officially retired yet, but he did say earlier in the summer that this year would likely be his last. Let’s be honest for a moment here with this fact: if he was not able to stay healthy this season, then it is not likely he would be able to do so in the next one. But let us all still just take a moment to appreciate the greatest Canadian baller of all time, because his wizardry on the court was unparalleled.
