Top 5 NBA Point Guards Heading Into January

Top 5 NBA Point Guards Heading Into January

Top 5 Point Guards Through 1/3 of Season
Kyle Terada - USA Today Sports

Plenty of the league's floor generals have elevated their game compared to last year, but the question remains the same: Who is the best PG of them all? This debate can go on for hours, but I want to temporarily settle the discussion. After looking at stats, records and the intangibles, I came up with the top five who absolutely tower over the rest thus far into the season.

There is no reason for these players not to be in the top 10, but top five is too tall an order for this bunch.

Kyle Lowry
Kyrie Irving
Damian Lillard
Chris Paul
Rajon Rondo

Derrick Rose is finally getting his groove back. The former MVP has been delivering much-needed buckets in late-game situations as of late. He's averaging a shade under 20 PPG and 5.0 APG with limited minutes. He is the only player on the list to average less than 30 minutes per game, but he is making the most of every second.

Tony Parker should be no surprise on the list, but his ranking is always a mystery. He's probably the best PG in the league to getting in the lane and finishing, but what's most impressive is the 62 percent he's shooting from deep. In previous years, Parker never reached 40 percent in that category. He has missed 10 games due to injury and rest, but the four-time NBA Champion is a major threat to deal with when he's on the court.

Leading the league with 10.5 APG, it would be disrespectful to not have Wall in the top three. As one of the fastest players in the league, he has learned the relevance of shifting gears and changing speeds. His intensity on defense is incredible as well. Wall is finally living up to his potential and is leading his team to a top seed in the Eastern Conference.

At No. 2, I have the quickest trigger in all of basketball. Curry can heat up at any given moment and poses a threat on both sides of the ball. His shooting alone puts him above most point guards, but he also consistently finds the open man and puts pressure on opposing PGs. There isn't much this sharpshooter can't do.

At the top of the list is the most explosive player in the league, Russell Westbrook. He is an absolute monster and cannot be tamed. He averages close to 30 PPG, but fill up the stat sheet in very short bursts of minutes. There is no one who can guard him one-on-one. Westbrook is the ultimate player.
