After years of the MVP race being a two-man duel between LeBron James and Kevin Durant, the 2014-15 battle for the NBA’s highest individual honor features three fresh faces leading the pack. Here are the Week 15 top 10 NBA most valuable player rankings.

10. LaMarcus Aldridge

Stats: 23.8 PPG, 10.3 RPG, 46.7 FG%

LaMarcus Aldridge has long been one of the more underrated players in the NBA. He’s a double-double machine and the combination of his nearly automatic mid-range jump shot along with powerful post moves makes Aldridge one of the toughest covers for any power forward or center in the league.

9. Jimmy Butler

Stats: 20.5 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 46.0 FG%

The young shooting guard leads the race for the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award after seeing his points per game average jump from 13.1 to 20.5 this season. Jimmy Butler leads the NBA in minutes per game at 39.8, nearly a full two minutes over the next highest rate in the league.

8. Chris Paul

Stats: 17.7 PPG, 9.6 APG, 47.4 FG%, 1.9 SPG

Chris Paul is not putting up the same gaudy offensive numbers as he did early in his career, but he’s the unquestioned leader of the 33-16 Los Angeles Clippers. His 4.33 assist to turnover ratio is the highest in the NBA.

7. John Wall

Stats: 17.4 PPG, 10.2 APG, 2.0 SPG, 45.9 FG%

After struggling with his jump shot early in his career, John Wall has blossomed into one of the most complete floor generals in the NBA. The 2010 No. 1 overall pick leads the league in assists per game at 10.2 and has carried the Washington Wizards to a 31-18 record.

6. Damian Lillard

Stats: 21.7 PPG, 6.3 APG, 43.1 FG%

Seeing Damian Lillard on a top 10 list for MVP shows just how big of a snub the Portland point guard was from the Western Conference All-Star team. The diminutive Portland Trail Blazer has proven to be as clutch as anyone in the league, and when Lillard catches fire, there’s little hope for the opposition.

Stats: 26.2 PPG, 7.4 APG, 5.5 RPG, 49.0 FG%

Considering the amount of scrutiny the Cleveland Cavaliers have been under since the beginning of the season, you would think LeBron James was having a worse year than his statistics show. Cleveland’s 2-8 record without James active indicates how valuable “King James” is to the Cavaliers.

4. Russell Westbrook

Stats: 24.9 PPG, 7.6 APG, 6.1 RPG, 2.3 SPG

The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard is having the best year of his seven-year career. Despite his outstanding season, Russell Westbrook has no chance to win MVP unless he can propel Oklahoma City into the postseason.

3. Anthony Davis

Stats: 24.6 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 2.8 BPG, 55.4 FG%

If Anthony Davis was on a better team, it’s likely he’d be leading the MVP race at this point in the season. Just 21 years old, the 2012 No. 1 overall pick is an athletic freak and dominates on both ends of the court.

2. James Harden

Stats: 27.0 ppg, 6.8 apg, 5.6 rpg, 45.2 fg%

Coming in at No. 2, and as close behind our No. 1 player as you can get, is Houston Rockets SG James Harden. The heavily-bearded left-hander has been a force offensively for his entire career, but has turned it up a notch in 2014-15. After receiving heavy scrutiny last season over a lack of effort on the defensive end, Harden has improved leaps and bounds this year on that half of the court.

Stats: 23.0 PPG, 8.2 APG, 48.5 FG%, 2.2 SPG

Stephen Curry is the best player on the best team in the NBA, and when it comes to naming the league’s MVP, that combination is tough to beat. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Curry has quickly become a fan favorite, as evidenced by the fact the Warriors' point guard received the most fan votes for the All-Star game.
