2015 NBA Draft: 5 Best Fits For the Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks' season ended on a sour note after losing to the Houston Rockets in five games. They also had to deal with the Rajon Rondo mess. It's clear that they need to make some changes this offseason. Dallas has the No. 21 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Here are five players who would be good fits for them in the first round.

5. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, SF, Arizona

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is one of the better perimeter defenders in the draft, which is something the Mavericks desperately need. He could fill the role that Jae Crowder had for them before they let him go in the Rondo trade. He isn't as polished on the offensive end, but scoring isn't an issue for Dallas.

4. Delon Wright, PG, Utah

Delon Wright is another player who excels on the defensive end of the court. He is a tall point guard at 6-foot-5, and he does a good job of using that to his advantage against shorter players. He is one of the oldest players in the draft at 23, but he should be able to step right in and contribute as a rookie.

3. Cameron Payne, PG, Murray State

Cameron Payne would fill the Mavericks' need of a point guard. He was a very good scorer at Murray State, averaging over 20 PPG and added six APG last year. He has good length but needs to add some strength to survive the grind of an NBA season. He isn't an elite athlete but has enough quickness to get by most guards.

2. Robert Upshaw, C, Washington

It became readily apparent against the Rockets that Dallas didn't have any rim protection. Tyson Chandler isn't the same player he used to be, and Robert Upshaw would immediately help them in this area. He is a rare shot-blocking talent, but there is a reason he is falling to this point of the draft. He has been dismissed from his college team twice for breaking team rules, so there will have to be a lot of research done before selecting him.

1. Tyus Jones, PG, Duke

Tyus Jones would be a great pick for Dallas. He always played his best basketball in the biggest games of the year. Jones would bring leadership and stability to their point guard spot. He is a good outside shooter which will allow Dallas to get back to their spacing offense that fell apart with the addition of Rondo. He won't blow people away with his athleticism, but Jones is one of the smartest players in the draft.

After losing DeAndre Jordan in the worst way imaginable, the Dallas Mavericks looked to be a broken team. No one was expecting them to make the playoffs. Still, the Mavs are one of the older teams in the league and they will definitely try to get younger in the offseason. These are five guys who won't be around in 2016-17.

Dirk Nails Game-Winner, Gets Love From Kobe

Kobe Bryant wasn't able to lace up for the Los Angeles Lakers against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night, but he still managed to make the highlight reels on multiple occasions. After Dirk Nowitzki nailed what turned out to be the game-winning jumper, he stumbled backward into Bryant and received a pat of approval. This encounter is the definition of the saying 'game recognizes game' as the two players are both legends and future Hall of Famers.

Josh Smith Fakes Dirk Nowitzki Out of His Shoes

Josh Smith has returned to the Houston Rockets via trade, and he made the most of his first game back. He scored 16 points off the bench, including this drive on Dirk Nowitzki that made Smith look like Hakeem Olajuwon. Could Ty Lawson and Josh Smith be the spark duo off the bench that rejuvenates this Rockets team?
