Although I am sure the Los Angeles Clippers would like to avoid the distractions right now (they are about to play in Game 7 vs. the San Antonio Spurs, after all), here’s one for them: DeAndre Jordan could sign with the Dallas Mavericks this summer.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon had this to say about the matter:
“Another potential prize summer target for the Mavs: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, who multiple sources say has made it clear through back channels that he will be extremely interested in coming to Dallas. Signing the 26-year-old Jordan, a dominant physical force who led the league in rebounding and field-goal percentage this season, would mean letting the 32-year-old Chandler leave again after another one-season stint with the Mavs.”
Assuming this actually goes down, the Mavs would clearly be picking up a very valuable piece, and the Clippers would have to do some serious searching for another rebounding machine.
This past season, Jordan managed to average 11.5 points and 15 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, Jordan is currently putting up 13.5 PPG and 13.2 RPG.
Of course, there are going to be plenty of rumors surrounding the Mavs this summer. Mark Cuban is running the show, which means Dallas could be making a run at every big name on the market until it finally lands a player or two.
Regardless, Jordan is in playoff mode, so I assume this is the last thing on his mind. That said, if he wants to continue to compete for championships, staying with the Clippers wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. You know, since the team is still in the playoffs, Chris Paul is still a top point guard in the league and Doc Rivers is the head coach.
One thing is for sure: Rajon Rondo won’t be suiting up for the Mavericks in the 2015-16 season.
Stay tuned, as this summer’s free agency will surely not disappoint.
