If anyone thought that the Golden State Warriors would have a hard time against the scrappy Memphis Grizzlies, Game 5 showed the doubters that the Warriors are ready to put this series to rest.
And rest assured, this series is pretty much over.
It all started in Game 4, a game in which the Warriors had to win to keep the critics off their backs. They did that and then some, blowing out the Grizzlies on their home floor, and that set them up for a triumphant return to Oracle Arena in Game 5.
There was no doubt in my mind that the Warriors would win this game, and they proved why I still have an unwavering faith in this team. Memphis needed to win to keep their hopes of pulling off the biggest upset in recent memory alive, but without their best defender to keep Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in check, the Grizzlies were chopped meat.
The Warriors are a team that can put up points in a hurry and with fury, and they did that in Game 5 in a manner that demoralized the Grizzlies. Yes, Memphis will say all the right things to give their fans back home some encouragement, but it will be false hope, as we all know the Grizzlies now have no chance to win this series.
So consider this post my obituary for the Grizzlies. They gave it a good try, but in the end, Golden State was just too much for them to handle.
Rest in peace, Memphis.
