DeAndre Jordan is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and that has caused Dallas Mavericks SF Chandler Parsons to resume his recruiting role, which he played so well in his time with the Houston Rockets. Back then, he helped the Rockets reel in Dwight Howard when it seemed unlikely that the big man would leave guaranteed money on the table with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The mere fact that Jordan is considering the Mavericks should be a credit to Parsons’ tenacity, and owner Mark Cuban might think about hiring the SF as an assistant coach once his playing career is over. Parsons has gone on a full-court press of Jordan this offseason by visiting the big man in Houston and flying out to Los Angeles after the draft to pressure him some more. The two players also share an agent. Parsons is sure of himself in situations like this, and that is why I think he’d make a great coach one day. He is clearly going all out in his recruitment of Jordan.
“I have a lot of close relationships and that’s just part of my DNA and part of my personality, to talk with people and be cool with people,” Parsons said Friday on 103.3 FM ESPN. “I have a lot of friends in this league, to be honest. Every summer or every free agency, I have no problem going out there and telling them how I feel and trying to recruit them to play for us.”
Ultimately, I can’t see Jordan leaving the Los Angeles Clippers and a chance to play for the title every season. Even though there are rumors that Jordan doesn’t always get along with Chris Paul, people often forget to mention Jordan and Blake Griffin are the best of friends. That should have a lot of sway for Jordan in the end.
The Mavericks will make a strong push for Jordan’s services thanks mainly to Parsons taking his recruiting duties so seriously, but they will fall just short of landing the high-flying big man.
