Coming off of a 2013-14 season in which he was second in the NBA D-League in scoring with 23.8 points per game, Seth Curry turned his game up a notch in the 2015 NBA Las Vegas Summer League, as he averaged 24.4 points per contest and led the Vegas Summer League in scoring. Curry’s hope was that his performance was enough to secure a guaranteed contract offer from the New Orleans Pelicans, the team he played with during Summer League play. Instead, Curry has signed a two-year, $2 million deal with the Sacramento Kings.

The fact that the Pelicans let Curry slip away is mind-blowing. During the team’s playoff series against the Golden State Warriors last season, the Pelicans had trouble scoring outside of Anthony Davis. Curry can score in multiple ways, and he can put up points in a hurry which would have fit the Pelicans’ needs perfectly.

With George Karl trying to implement the same offensive system that he ran while he was with the Denver Nuggets, Curry will be the perfect sixth-man type player off the bench. I liken his game to Lou Williams of the Los Angeles Lakers or Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers. Curry’s gonna come off the bench to instantly give the Kings an energy lift and find ways to put the ball in the basket. He may never be the player his brother is, but his talents certainly work in the NBA.

The Kings went out and completely transformed their roster this offseason, and Curry might have the biggest impact of any of the new faces. If Curry can average double digits off the bench during the 2015-16 NBA season, then the Kings could very easily make their first playoff appearance since 2006.
