Philadelphia 76ers Are Getting Exactly What They Deserve

If the 0-17 Philadelphia 76ers think this is the way to build a winner, then they are sorely mistaken. What they are doing makes sense in one regard. Clearly, they have no interest in winning any basketball games until they find a franchise-changing player. The problem is that they might have one of those guys on their team right now, and they aren’t teaching him the correct way to play the game. The biblical phrase “you reap what you sow” comes to mind here, and if that maxim is true, then Philadelphia won’t be in the playoffs anytime soon. Drafting Ben Simmons would certainly help their chances, but something tells me the bad karma surrounding this franchise will keep them from having luck in the lottery. Basically, this organization is getting what they deserve.

The 76ers have lost at least 16 games to start the season for two years in a row, and that has never happened before in NBA history. You can’t exactly call this a path to building winning habits, and it’s damaging Jahlil Okafor greatly so far this year. His off the court incidents probably wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t have people heckling him everywhere for being on a losing team, and it is a shame that the Los Angeles Lakers used that draft pick on D’Angelo Russell instead of the insanely talented big man out of Duke University. Of course, we’re all seeing that Okafor can’t win games by himself, but anyone who watched him play in college or high school could’ve told you that.

At Duke, he played with two other first round draft picks in Tyus Jones and Justise Winslow, and that crew was able to grab a championship during their short time in college. Okafor deserves better than what the 76ers are doing, and so does the city of Philadelphia. At the very least, they should severely reduce ticket prices until the team decides that winning is a priority. Til then, it won’t be worth showing up for their fans.
