Madison Square Garden Has No Plans to Host ACC Tournament

Turns out the ACC isn’t going to be stealing all of the Big East‘s thunder.

The ACC has already taken a lot away from the Big East After Notre DameSyracuse and Pittsburgh‘s decisions to join the ACC, the Big East has lost three of their premier programs and many people feel it they have lost their title as one of the prominent basketball conferences in the country. However, one of the most characteristic traits of Big East basketball will remain.

There were rumors floating around saying that the ACC will take over Madison Square Garden, one of the most famous and distinctive venues in all of sports and entertainment, as their home base for the ACC tournament. This rumor obviously did not sit well with Big East fans, considering that the Garden has housed the Big East tournament annually since 1983.

Luckily for Big Easters, a report was recently released stating that the Garden will remain in the hands of the Big East during tournament play. The fact that the Garden is remaining loyal to one of their most prized traditions is certainly soothing to Big East fans. According to the report, the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn that would have served as a viable second option in terms of Big Apple venues, will also not house the tournament.

While the ACC is clearly having trouble finding a high-profile metropolitan venue to house their tournament,  no one doubts the huge positive impact that the three newcomers will have on the state of the newly-amped conference.

While New York would have been a killer destination for the tournament, the ACC will definitely find a sufficient location in the near future.
