On Saturday night, we had the battle of the undefeated teams in the state of North Carolina, Charlotte 49ers versus East Carolina Pirates. Charlotte was coming in with a record of 6-0 and East Carolina was coming in with a record of 5-0. Which team got the win to stay undefeated? It was the Charlotte 49ers, who won 76-64.

This is the 49ers best start in program history and this could be the start of something new down at Charlotte. The 49ers won their game on Saturday night with the help of their senior forward Chris Braswell, who came off the bench and scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

For a player coming off the bench, Braswell is leading Charlotte in scoring 14.6 points per game and in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds per game.

For Charlotte to be at this point right now with a record of 7-0 is an accomplishment and they should be applauded for it. But let’s not get too carried away. They have played a lot of lower ranked teams and defeated them which is what you are supposed to do.

The test comes this month where they will play Davidson (Southern) on December 5th who in November played the University of New Mexico tough but has also played tough competition as well.

To continue this month, they will see the upstart Miami (FL) who defeated UMass on Saturday and then play a very good team in Florida State. So we will see what this Charlotte team is made of before conference play. We will see if they are contenders or pretenders.
