The Detroit Titans had a very talented basketball team this past season, but they will likely drop off in the 2013-14 college basketball season.
Not only will the Titans be losing Ray McCallum, but they will also be losing their next three highest scorers. McCallum had a great season, averaging 18.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. So in the grand scheme of things, Detroit will be losing its top four leading scorers from this past season.
The incoming recruiting class is not looking that promising either.
Detroit did not make the NCAA tournament or anything like that, but the Titans were a fun team to watch all season long–had the ninth ranked scoring offense in the nation–and they did make the NIT as a No. 6 seed. The only problem is the fact that they lost in their first game of that tourney.
Who knows what this team’s next move will be, but they will likely not win the Horizon League in the 2013-14 season after finishing just one game back in the regular season standings this past year.
The Titans aren’t a household name or anything like that–only made Big Dance six times–but after the success they had last season and this past one, it will be disappointing to see so many talented players go. If things happen as they should, it will also be disappointing seeing this team take such a big drop in college hoops.
However, you never know what will happen in this sport, but as it looks on paper, Detroit will likely not be that good.
