The eligibility status of Florida Gators‘ star freshman Chris Walker has been hanging in the balance for a number of months of now. On Tuesday, news surfaced that Walker’s expectations at Florida have been backed up until at least December when it became apparent that he will not enroll at the university for the fall semester.
According to various reports, the Gators do expect Walker to enroll and be ready to join the team in December once the fall semester comes to a close, but he’s still working on getting the eligibility that is necessary to do so. Although Walker has yet to play a game in a Florida uniform, the backlash of not having him for the early part of the season is still a monumental blow to the Gators’ early season expectations.
Obviously things aren’t decided in the month of November, so if Walker does join the team in mid-December, the team’s expectations certainly increase and Florida will undeniably become that much more dangerous down the stretch.
Walker was a consensus top ten prospect coming out of high school and it’s not farfetched one bit to consider the fact that he could be a one and done player with the Gators regardless of how long he suits up. At 6-foot-11, Walker has unbelievable athleticism and he is an absolute nightmare to slow down in transition. His impact in the Gators’ front court, alongside the return of Patric Young, would be huge — and although that can certainly still happen in the second half of the season, it has officially been delayed through the fall semester.
