Texas vs. Oklahoma: Game Preview, Prediction

The Big 12 is arguably the most difficult conference in college basketball, with seven of the 10 teams expected to make the 2015 NCAA tournament. Two of these teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns, face off on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 at Oklahoma’s Lloyd Nobel Center.

The Longhorns have won three straight after a four-game losing streak and are desperate to carry that momentum into the most difficult stretch of their entire season. They face five ranked conference opponents, as well as the very talented Kansas State Wildcats, so every win will be huge for NCAA tournament seeding. Although it looks like Texas are a lock for the Big Dance this year, they could be on the outside looking in if they end up losing out – something that is possible.

Oklahoma lost their last game to Kansas State away from home, but won five straight before that and look to be a legitimate threat when it comes to the Big 12 Tournament. At home recently, they have looked dominant over two extremely talented teams, the Iowa State Cyclones and the West Virginia Mountaineers, so it’s safe to say that this team will likely win against the Longhorns at home.

Texas has the talent to pull off this upset, but with the way the Sooners have been playing at home, it’s going to take everything the Longhorns have. Texas should make the tournament, but expect them to limp to the Big Dance behind a very disappointing end to the season, whereas Oklahoma comes into the tournament with enough momentum to make a deep run.

Prediction: Oklahoma 82, Texas 72
