Record: 20-12

Region – Seed: West – No. 11

RPI: 55

BPI: 36

Conference: Southeastern Conference

How They Qualified: At-large

For many teams, a good win is what propels them to a good season. For the Ole Miss Rebels, it was actually a loss that did the trick.

Ole Miss was 9-4 in non-conference games, but opened conference play by taking the top-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to overtime in Rupp Arena. Ole Miss ultimately lost 89-86, but head coach Andy Kennedy and his team showed that they could play with anyone in that game. From there, Ole Miss seemed to find their way and continued to improve as the SEC slate continued.

What You Need to Know:

Leading Scorer: Stefan Moody, 16.3 ppg

Leading Rebounder: Sebastian Saiz, 5.4 rpg

Leading Passer: Jarvis Summers, 4.6 apg

Bad Losses: Charleston Southern, Western Kentucky, South Carolina

Good Wins: Over Creighton, Arkansas, Texas A&M

Ole Miss relies on its perimeter players to get the job done. Moody, Summers and Ladarius White are the only three Rebels averaging in double figures. But those three players are very good and could pose significant match-up problems in the tournament.

Kennedy hopes that his inside players can step up and provide a presence, at least on defense, to help this team advance in the NCAA Tournament. Ole Miss would be thrilled to be playing in the Sweet 16, although that does not appear likely. Winning one game in the tournament would be seen as a success in Oxford.
