The end of the regular season is almost here. That is good and bad. It is good because conference tournaments and the Big Dance are almost among us. It is bad because we will no longer get to see Big 12 matchups like this one on a daily basis — well, once the 2016 NCAA tournament gets underway, that is.
Nonetheless, the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will meet up on Saturday. For the record, both teams are going to make the dance — you can count on that one.
After looking a little off and dropping two straight, the Sooners have since gotten back on track with two victories in a row. One of those victories came against the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road.
Texas has also been dropping some contests as of late, but it does enter this battle on a one-game winning streak. Everyone seems to be dropping games in the brutal Big 12 … except for the Kansas Jayhawks. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are on quite the roll as well.
Texas and Oklahoma might not win the Big 12 regular-season title, but both squads are more than capable of making some serious noise in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments. Oklahoma does have the best player in the country on its side in Buddy Hield, while Texas has head coach Shaka Smart on its side (side note: Smart’s teams have been lethal in the dance in the past).
The Longhorns might get this clash at home, and having home-court advantage is a very powerful tool in college hoops, but it’s time for the Sooners to hit their stride once again. Also, did I mention they have Buddy Hield?
