Oregon Ducks Are Most Complete Team in Nation Right Now
As everyone already knows, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies played in what people are calling the “game of the year”. Alabama has come out on top and defeated the Aggies on the road in one of the best games to start the 2013 season. Many people are now calling the Crimson Tide the best team in the nation — by a long-shot.
The score of that “game of the year” was 49-42 with very little defense played on both sides. So what does that game have to do with the Oregon Ducks? The Alabama vs. A&M game proved one thing: the Crimson Tide are not the same defensively as they were last year — at least not yet. That opens the door for one team to come in and take the title of most complete team in the nation.
Enter, the Oregon Ducks.
Oregon has been stellar through three weeks both offensively and defensively. Well, you might be thinking that the Ducks have yet to play a tough opponent while Alabama had to play Virginia Tech and then Texas A&M. However, the Ducks have had one cupcake so far in Nicholls State. They have also played ACC foe Virginia and improved SEC opponent, Tennessee. Neither team, by any means, will set the world on fire in 2013, but they are no cupcake.
The Ducks have handled all three teams easily. The Nicholls State game was over at halftime as Oregon went on to win, 66-3. Virginia thought they might have a shot, but fell to the Ducks, 59-10, at home. Finally, Tennessee was supposed to pose the biggest early season threat, but faltered after scoring the first touchdown, losing 59-14.
That’s right, the Ducks average just over 61 points per game on offense while giving up just nine points a game defensively. Winning every game by an average of 52 points is something you rarely hear about.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota has entered the Heisman discussion easily after the win and this team is making an early statement in college football. Everyone is starting to take notice of what is going on in Oregon and people are starting to wonder, what’s in the water up in Eugene?
This team is making a serious push for national title talks as the most complete team in all of college football right now.
