Most Likely Playoff Scenarios Entering Week 13

Well, Auburn is quickly becoming irrelevant when it comes to the playoff and competing for an SEC title. Of course, losing back-to-back games this late in the season will do that every time. Although there are a couple of teams on this list that would need an absolute miracle to make the playoff, there is still a chance for each team — well, maybe.

With that, we look at the most likely playoff scenarios for Week 13 (AP rankings used).

Rutgers
Penn State

If Michigan State shows up, it should have no problem winning either game. Unfortunately, that still won’t be enough to get it in the Big 10 title game.

Charleston Southern
Georgia Tech

Charleston Southern shouldn’t pose a threat, while Georgia Tech has what it takes to knock off the Bulldogs. Todd Gurley out for the season or not, Georgia has enough firepower to beat anyone, and will win its last two games.

Final Verdict: Doesn’t Make Playoff

8. Ole Miss Rebels

Arkansas
Mississippi State

If things get really crazy, I guess Ole Miss could still slide into a playoff spot. It has to win its last two games for that to happen, and needs serious help from other teams. With Mississippi State losing its first game of the season last week, expect it to be flawless the rest of the way through. Ole Miss will beat Arkansas, but fall short against the Bulldogs.

Big Ten Title

Ohio State should have no problem against Indiana and Michigan, but stranger things have happened. If J.T. Barrett keeps doing his thing, look for the Buckeyes to roll in their last three contests, including the title game.

Final Verdict: Doesn’t Make Playoff

6. Baylor Bears

Nothing has changed since last week. Baylor still has a solid offense and I am predicting them to win their last three games, which will result in a spot in the playoff. This is the time when Bryce Petty and co. need to go off by scoring at will. Style points never hurt anyone.

Final Verdict: Makes Playoff

Texas

TCU just got by Kansas last weekend, but it shouldn’t have any problem with its last two opponents. However, Texas has been hot lately, winning its last three contests. Unlike last week’s prediction, who knows if winning out will be enough for the Horned Frogs.

Final Verdict: Doesn’t Make Playoff

Vanderbilt
Ole Miss

Mississippi State will get by Vanderbilt with ease. The contest against Ole Miss won’t be as easy, but the Bulldogs will manage to win anyways, which means they will only have one loss, and the committee will have some serious decisions to make.

Final Verdict: Makes Playoff

Pac 12 Title

Colorado and Oregon State aren’t pulling off the upset, although the Beavers did just beat Arizona State. Who knows who the Ducks will play in the Pac 12 title game, but I am predicting them to get upset anyways. If not, the playoff committee is for sure going to leave at least one worthy team out.

SEC Title

Alabama has now won five games in a row and very well could be the best team in the country. After all, it did just beat the No. 1 team in college football. Alabama isn’t losing another game this season. Plain and simple.

Final Verdict: Makes Playoff

Now would be the perfect time for Florida State to start showing up for all four quarters. Regardless, I am predicting the Seminoles to win the rest of their games. There is absolutely no way the committee can deny FSU a shot in the playoff if they go undefeated.

Final Verdict: Makes Playoff

The four-team playoff is going to change on a weekly basis. That is just how it works. This week, Florida State, Alabama, Mississippi State and Baylor all make the cut. Unless if more upsets happen, a worthy team or two is going to be left out.
