The tide is about to roll in Tuscaloosa as the Alabama Crimson Tide faces off with the Auburn Tigers on Saturday night in the 2014 Iron Bowl. As you may recall, their instate nemesis caused Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide a lot of grief last year. It all happened in the final seconds of the game when Auburn corner back Chris Davis, who now plays for the San Diego Chargers, turned Bama’s missed field goal into a game-winning touchdown return that drew us all to our feet, while screaming at the top of our lungs.
A year has now passed and it’s time for the Crimson Tide to settle the score. What has Alabama done this season to prepare themselves for this moment in hopes of avoid reliving such a dramatic episode? Well, they’ve done quite a bit actually.
Per the selection committee, the Crimson Tide has had a complete body of work this season. For the second consecutive week, they’ve landed atop the CFP poll, bolstering the No. 1 spot, even superseding the zero-loss Florida State Seminoles, who currently rank No. 3 in Week 14. The Crimson Tide even survived their greatest challenge of the season with their 25-20 win over the No. 4 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who equally parallel their stats with a 10-1 record.
Although the CFB committee chair Jeff Long and Friends have concluded that Alabama has presented a complete body of work, their job isn’t over yet. Everything they’ve worked for all season could be lost if they fail to win this year’s meeting against their hometown rival. The Tigers have been laden with injuries, which Alabama will surely look to take advantage of. Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin seeks to use every weapon at his disposal to penetrate Auburn’s already-broken defense.
If they are successful, the Tide will be rolling to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game. This will be their fourth conference title appearance since 2008.
Undoubtedly, this will not be an easy task since the Tigers have absolutely nothing to lose. They are already a three-loss team with zero championship prospects in their cross hairs. They’re only focusing on one thing, and one thing alone: crashing the tide of Bama and ruining their hopes yet again.
