5. Too Much Playing Time For The Jets' Defense

The New York Jets tried their hardest to improve their offense, but it is still weak. The offense’s struggles on Sunday will make the defense contribute to their loss on Sunday.

The Jets acquired running back Chris Ivory and drafted quarterback Geno Smith during the offseason. However, these two transactions will not be able to prevent the offense from struggling on a weekly basis.

Smith is bound to make rookie mistakes during his first NFL start on Sunday. These rookie mistakes will most likely include interceptions, fumbles and sacks taken. This will cause the defense to be on the field longer than they should be

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense is good enough to take advantage of extra possessions. They have a good wide receiver corps in Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, who are reliable targets for quarterback Josh Freeman. The secondary should look good against the pass; however, the Bucs have a very good running in Doug Martin.

'The Hamster Muscle' had a great rookie season, finishing with 1,454 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns, 11 rushing. He should have a great performance against the Jets' run defense, which ranked 26th last season.

The Bucs should be able to score at least 14 points because of their good offense.

4. Rex Ryan's Poor Decision-Making

New York Jets Head coach Rex Ryan is hoping that his contract year will be much better than last season. Ryan’s decision making against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play a pivotal role in the Jets losing Sunday’s game.

Ryan has been infamous for making asinine decisions during his four-year coaching tenure. This offseason, he made more asinine decisions which will cost the Jets dearly in Week 1. The worst decision he made was playing incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez in the fourth quarter of a preseason game against the New York Giants. Sanchez ended up sustaining a shoulder injury, which could sideline him for a few weeks.

This limits the depth that is behind rookie Geno Smith, who will be making his first NFL start. If Smith struggles or sustains a serious injury, then they will have to rely on two terrible backup quarterbacks.

The primary reason why the Jets will lose on Sunday is Ryan’s handling of projected running back carries. The Jets traded a fourth-round draft pick for dynamic running back Chris Ivory. Ivory was supposed to be the projected starting running back, but he sustained an injury. He is back to full health and will be playing in Week 1.

Despite Ivory being healthy, Ryan will not reward him as the starting running back. According to Dan Hanzus of NFL.com, the Jets listed Bilal Powell, last season’s backup running back to Shonn Greene, as the team’s starting running back on the depth chart.

Ivory has shown that he has the potential to be a very good running back when healthy. Ryan is bound to give Ivory carries, but he will most likely rely on Powell in Week 1. This decision will cause Smith to make more decisions that are careless.

3. New York Jets' Terrible Offense

The New York Jets did a good job of improving last year’s terrible offense, but it is not good enough to outscore the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense.

The Jets acquired running back Chris Ivory in a draft day trade, which is a big upgrade over last year's starter Shonn Greene. They also drafted West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, who appears to have the arm strength to be an upgrade over incumbent starter Mark Sanchez.

According to John O'Boyle of The Star Ledger, veteran wide receiver Santonio Holmes said he was unsure if he would play on Sunday. The big problem with the Jets' offense is that they will be dependent on a young wide receiver corps.

To make matters worse, the Jets also have a young running back corps and quarterback. In the NFL, that is not enough to score enough points to win more than eight games a season. Unfortunately for the Jets’ offense, they will be trying to outscore an offense with a dynamic running back in Doug Martin and a good wide receiver corps led by Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.

The Bucs' defense will try to use their experienced defensive players like cornerback Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson to take advantage of the Jets’ offensive players’ inexperience. Revis and Goldson should be able to help the secondary disguise their schemes, which will lead to Smith making careless throws.

2. Darrelle Revis

On April 22, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired cornerback Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets. Revis’ assistance to the Bucs and their secondary will be a huge factor in why the Jets will lose on Sunday.

Jets owner Woody Johnson decided last season that he did not want to meet Darrelle Revis’ contractual demands to be one of the highest paid players in the NFL. During the offseason, Johnson pressured recently-hired GM John Idzik to trade Revis in order to avoid meeting his demands, thus Idzik worked out a trade with the Bucs.

The way Revis was traded to the Bucs had to have made him dislike his former team. He was recovering from a torn ACL, which he sustained during Week 2 of last season. Revis decided that he did not want any guaranteed money in the new deal he worked out with the Bucs. It appears that he is determined to show the league that he is still a dominant cornerback.

Unfortunately for the Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Revis is healthy for their Week 1 matchup. He decided not to be sympathetic to his former team by giving the Bucs valuable information.

If the Bucs' offense can run up the score against the Jets' defense, then it will help the Bucs' defense in stopping rookie quarterback Geno Smith and the Jets' offense. Along with this, NFL experts have considered Revis to be one of the best cornerbacks in the league. He should immediately upgrade the secondary that ranked 32nd in pass defense last season. Revis’ brilliant scouting move and amazing talent will play a huge factor in the Jets losing in Week 1.

1. Too Much Doug 'The Muscle Hamster' Martin

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a great offensive weapon in running back Doug Martin.

Martin had a phenomenal rookie season by totaling more than 1,400 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns. According to Josh Sanchez of fansided.com, Martin will be a three-down running back this season. With the Bucs planning to use Martin as a three-down running back, it will help them win more football games. In the NFL, the key to winning football games is controlling the time of possession. The best way for a team to control time of possession is by dominating the run game. Unfortunately for the Jets, Martin showed that he has the potential to be an elite running back.

The Jets’ run defense ranked 26th as running backs like Tennessee Titans’ Chris Johnson and Seattle Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch accumulated more than 100 rushing yards in games against them last season. The Jets did upgrade their run defense by drafting Sheldon Richardson in April’s Draft, but it is not enough to stop Martin.

Martin should be able to get at least 100 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Jets. This will be a big reason why the Jets will lose in Week 1.
