Houston Texans Rumors: Ed Reed to Play Week 3 When Ray Lewis Inducted Into Ring of Honor

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

As the Houston Texans took on the Tennessee Titans last week, safety Ed Reed seemed as though he wanted to play. Head coach Gary Kubiak has been cautious when looking to ease his All Pro defensive back into game action for the first time this year, but he knows that Reed wanted to get out there.

“I think he was standing there Sunday saying, ‘I can give y’all something,’” Kubiak said Wednesday according to ESPN. “We just, we felt like … the other decision — that was the best decision.”

In week three, the Texans take on Reed’s former team and reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. On that day, former Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis will be inducted into their Ring of Honor. There has been plenty of speculation that Reed will indeed play for the first time in Baltimore, especially on a day where his dear friend is honored.

“I don’t sense that this is an earmark,” Kubiak said. “I think he’s been giving us everything he has to come back… I see the same driven guy that I’ve seen the first few weeks.”

Kubiak said that it “just so happens” the team is traveling to Baltimore this week and Reed is feeling good enough to see some action.

Reed is coming off surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip earlier this spring, an issue that apparently he has dealt with for several years. Ravens coach John Harbaugh told the media,

“Ed’s had a hip issue for about four years that we’ve dealt with.”

In any event, Reed is rumored to play Sunday. He won’t start, but could likely see some game action. It would be a fitting day to do so as he supports his former teammate while trying to beat his former team on the same afternoon.
