Who was the New York Jets hero against the Atlanta Falcons? Nick FolkRex Ryan is even quoted calling him the “Folk Hero” at the post-game press conference.

The competition in training camp is finally paying off with the Jets bringing in players like Billy Cundiff to compete with Folk to keep his “Folk leg” sharp. Give John Idzik credit where credit is due; he was right in trying to push Folk to his max potential, and it is paying off huge dividends for the Jets.

Folk was 3-for-3 last night with field goals and 3-for-3 for extra point kicks. To say that Folk was 100 percent accurate is an understatement. Folk is also 11-for-11 in field goals this season through five games and 9-for-9 in extra points. So when you ask yourself who was the stud last night, Folk should be placed at the top of the list.

There are only eight field goal kickers in the NFL this season who have a kicking percentage of 100 percent, and Folk leads them with the most field goals made and field goals attempted. Folk’s longest field goal this season is a 48-yard attempt. His greatest challenge will come when he attempts a 50-plus yard field goal attempt.

The Jets will need Folk’s perfection when they play their next few opponents that all have winning records: the New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints. Their next matchup will be against the winless Pittsburgh Steelers.
