The Buffalo Bills‘ rookie quarterback EJ Manuel followed up what was easily his worst career game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 10 with one of the best performances of his young career on Sunday against the New York Jets. On a rainy, windy day where fellow rookie Geno Smith couldn’t get anything going, Manuel was sharp, efficient, and deadly in the passing game.
EJ finished the contest with 245 yards and two touchdowns on 20-for-28 passing in his second game back from a knee injury. He demonstrated exactly why the Bills invested their 16th overall draft pick in him this past April, and did so without the help of Buffalo’s top two receivers in Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods.
After dealing with injuries all season long, it appears as though the Buffalo Bills are finally rounding into form under new head coach Doug Marrone. They are on the outside of the AFC wild-card race looking in, but if their offense and defense continue to play as dominantly as they did on Sunday, there’s no telling how hot this team can get. It’s also encouraging that the Bills’ next three opponents all possess losing records.
Even so, a return to the play-offs this season is highly unlikely. It’s merely exciting for Bills fans to have such a talented and promising core of skill players in place. After some speed bumps early on, EJ Manuel’s development is in full-swing and the Bills’ offense looks primed for dominance in 2014.
