The Kansas City Chiefs have had one heck of a turnaround this season. Going from 2-14 last year to 9-0 this year has been amazing. However, they still don’t matchup to the caliber of the Denver Broncos and that was proven this evening. Peyton Manning and the Broncos ended the Chiefs undefeated season and are now back on top of the AFC West.
Alex Smith has done his part at quarterback for the Chiefs this season, but he isn’t much more than a great game manager. Smith wasn’t able to to keep the Chiefs’ offense going like they needed and was unable to match Manning and the Broncos on the scoreboard. The Chiefs’ defense has been great all year, but just like he does to every defense, Manning was able to weave Denver down the field enough times to clinch the victory.
The AFC West is far from over, but Kansas City is now going to be on the ropes. Manning plays former rival Tom Brady next Sunday while Kansas City faces off with the San Diego Chargers. A win for the Chiefs next week means when Denver goes to Kansas City in two weeks, the Chiefs will either be up a game and back in the same situation they were in this evening, or both teams will be tied with the winner likely ending up AFC West champion.
Tonight’s game between these two teams was very entertaining and proved the Chiefs aren’t just a flash in the pan. However, it also proved Kansas City isn’t quite on Denver’s level. Will the tide change when these two teams square off in Kansas City or will Manning and the Broncos officially shut down all hopes of the Chiefs winning the AFC West? Tune in to the encore in two weeks to find out.
