Marvin Lewis Should Be Fired After Cincinnati Bengals’ Latest Playoff Failure

Marvin Lewis

I’ve been saying for years that Marvin Lewis should be fired as head coach from the Cincinnati Bengals. After a third straight loss in Wild Card weekend, this time at home to the San Diego Chargers 27-10, Lewis now has zero playoff wins to show in 11 seasons as Bengals coach. How does this man still have his job?

Lewis is slightly above .500 for his regular season record at 90-85, but has an 0-5 playoff record (three losses coming in home games). Lewis got the Bengals to the playoffs in his third year as coach, but finished 8-8, 7-9, 4-11-1 in the following three seasons. You figure that would be a good time to bring in a new coach, right? Nope.

In the next season, the Bengals won the division at 10-6, but of course, were bounced out in the first round and followed that campaign with a 4-12 season. He still wasn’t fired. In the following draft, the Bengals acquired A.J. Green and Andy Dalton on back-to-back picks. Dalton and Green breathed new life into this once downtrodden franchise and got the Bengals to the playoffs the previous two seasons, losing at the Houston Texans both times.

This year was supposed to be different though. The Bengals went 11-5, including 8-0 at Paul Brown Stadium. What has become typical is how the Bengals turned back into the Bungles. Besides and excellent second quarter, the Bengals looked flat and lifeless all game. I know Dalton is largely to blame with his non-clutch play, but how many passes can Lewis get? It seems like people are always making excuses for the guy. You either get it done or you don’t, and this man hasn’t gotten it done for 11 years.

My suggestion to the Bengals is the same suggestion I had several years ago — fire Lewis and promote DC Mike Zimmer. Of course, Jason Garrett still has his job with the Dallas Cowboys after losing three straight play-in games, so I’m sure Lewis will be safe again.

Adam Jones Posts Video Apology To Antonio Brown

Adam 'Pacman' Jones took a ton of warranted criticism for accusing Antonio Brown of faking the injury he suffered against Cincinnati last weekend. But Jones deserves some credit for apologizing now that Brown has been ruled out against Denver in the divisional round.
