Shortly after the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft was completed, the Chicago Bears made an offer to former Northern Illinois quarterback, and 2013 Heisman Trophy finalist, Jordan Lynch. After finishing his college career with 6,209 passing yards, 51 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions, as well as rushing for 4,343 yards and 48 touchdowns, Lynch finished third in the Heisman vote last season. He burst onto the national scene in 2012 when he led the Huskies all the way to the Discover Orange Bowl, the first BCS game in conference history.

Of course, the Bears will not reveal which undrafted free agents they have struck deals with until those players officially sign, though it is being reported that Lynch signed a rookie free-agent deal. It’s unclear if Lynch received similar offers from other teams, though I’m sure it feels great for him to play for his hometown team. Lynch graduated from Mount Carmel High School on the southside of Chicago prior to his time at NIU.

The Bears also drafter former San Diego State QB David Fales in the sixth round today. This means that Lynch will more than likely move to another position if he hopes to make the team this season. When Lynch worked out at the NFL Scouting combine in March, he did so at multiple positions including QB, safety, and running back. The Bears have made no announcement as to their plan for Lynch, though the biggest draw about Lynch for NFL teams is his motor, and his heart. This is a kid that wants nothing else but to compete and will not back down from competition. With superb athletic ability and power, he would fair well at whatever position the Bears decide to play him at, including special teams.
