Many of the usual suspects at the quarterback position have been performing at a top level this season. To that same note, many of the guys who are normally top-dogs at the position have been struggling. Looking at that, these are the quarterback power rankings for week 8.

Newton hasn’t been the world-beater that the Panthers need him to be for this to be a successful season in Carolina, but he’s still been solid given the situation. If he starts to use his feet more, he could move up in these rankings.

It almost feels like sacrilege to have Brees this low in power rankings, but he hasn’t done anything this season to talk me out of it. I don’t think it’s talent that’s hurting him, but he’s definitely not playing at an elite level right now.

Part of his struggles as of late certainly deal with Calvin Johnson not being on the field, but Stafford has been inconsistent this season with or without Megatron. Until he gets it together, it’s hard to trust him as your QB.

Eli won’t be on the field as he and the Giants have their bye in week 8. However, he’s been solid this season, despite his obvious and expected inconsistency. We’ll see where he goes from here, but he deserves his due at this point in the year.

Flacco has been killing it as of late as the Ravens are rolling on both sides of the ball. Flacco is probably due for a stinker considering his track-record over his career, but he’s playing extremely well for the time being.

Don’t throw tomatoes just yet, but Tannehill is playing extremely well right now. That might be partially due to a scheme catering to him right now on the offensive side of the ball, but you can’t knock him for succeeding in that. It could all fall apart, but he could very well be having a coming out party right now also.

The Cowboys offense is clicking on all cylinders right now and Romo isn’t excluded. He’s been making big plays, hasn’t had many disasters since the start of the season, and has been leading Dallas to wins. You can’t argue with 6-1.

Kaep has been inconsistent as well, but you can’t deny that he’s the most reliable part of the 49ers offense still. He’s their biggest threat in the running game right now and he’ll have throws every game that wow you. If he can get everything clicking, he and the Niners will be fine.

Cutler and the Bears offense have been stuttering as of late (save for Matt Forte), but he’s still hard to ignore. Perhaps that’s the weapons around him that make him so dangerous, but he’s still got the tools around him and within him to be a more-than-solid QB.

The “Tom Brady Is Dead” narrative is dead. Brady has seemed to take those stories personally in recent weeks as he’s come back roaring. Watch out for a big midseason Patriots run if Brady keeps playing at this level.
5. Philip Rivers

Rivers didn’t have a great showing in week 7, but that was largely due to the Chiefs controlling the ball to the point where the Chargers QB didn’t get it that often. Outside of that, he’s been at a monster level all season and is only continuing his charge back to prominence.

Sure, he just lost his biggest weapon from his receiving core, but that’s no worry for Wilson. He’s been getting it done through the air and while taking off on the edges. The Seahawks may be facing big questions as a whole, but Wilson is their rock for right now.

Rodgers started off the season a bit slow, but he’s starting to look like the master operator of the machine that is the Packers offense as of late. He can do things that no other QB in the league can and he’s been doing those things now with no signs of stopping.

Sue me for not having the record-breaker at number one, but that’s not completely a slight. Peyton is still performing at an elite level right now and there doesn’t seem to be a defense that’s going to be able to slow him down anytime soon.

No one is better than Luck right now. He may still be considered a young quarterback in this league, but he’s absolutely everything he was projected to be when he was leaving Stanford. Watching him now at such a young age, it’s scary to think how good he’ll eventually be.
