Adrian Peterson’s Vow To Never Use Switch Again Too Little Too Late

Over two months after Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was released from a Texas jail on a $15,000 bond for beating his son with a switch, he finally decides to vow to never use a switch or any other instrument to hurt his children again.

“I won’t ever use a switch again,” Peterson said, according to CBS Sports. “There’s different situations where a child needs to be disciplined as far as timeout, taking their toys away, making them take a nap. There’s so many different ways to discipline your kids.”

We are all thankful for Peterson’s heartfelt realization. Unfortunately, his promise is too little too late.

Remember, Peterson felt no remorse for his actions. More importantly, he did not believe what he had done was wrong. For that reason, it is somewhat hard to gauge the sincerity of his oath.

“Ultimately, I know I’ll have my opportunity to sit down with Roger face to face, and I’ll be able to say a lot of the same things that I’ve said to you,” Peterson said. “Don’t say that I’m not remorseful, because in my statement, I showed that I was remorseful. I regretted everything that took place. I love my child, more than anyone could ever imagine.”

His statement feels forced as he reminds us he is showing remorse. Someone who is sincere should not have to do that.

Does anyone wonder why the NFL banished him until April 15, 2015 (the date Peterson can be reinstated if he plays by the rules)? The reason is not so much due to his disgusting actions, although that definitely played a huge role. I believe it has to do more with that he refused to cooperate. He thought he could hide behind the NFL Players Association, but the NFL does not work like that. The last thing commissioner Roger Goodell is going to allow is Peterson to make a mockery of his league in the public eye.

Peterson can say all he wants, but the reality is fans will see right through him. His statement is simply the first of many steps he must take if he ever wants to play football again.
