2015 NFL Draft: Evaluating Jaelen Strong’s Stock After Week 14

Jaelen Strong Arizona State

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

With just one game left in his junior season, Jaelen Strong is looking good, and despite being an underclassmen, Strong might benefit by leaving early. Considering how weak this year’s receiver class is and the demand of receivers in the NFL, Strong will likely be a mid-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Strong has had success at Arizona State over the past two years and there is no reason why he can’t continue that at the next level.

Despite his production and his NFL potential, Strong has still flown under the radar. According to an anonymous NFL scout, Strong’s pro player comparison is Marques Colston. Both are big and physical. However, Strong is talented enough to be a No. 1 receiver on an NFL offense, while Colston is nothing more than a complement receiver. One trait I love out of receivers is their ability to catch the contested pass. That is something Strong excels at.

With his route-running skills and his ability to separate from defenders, Strong projects as a very good receiver in the league. There is no doubt in my mind Strong can score touchdowns on Sundays. Strong is simply an NFL-ready receiver. It takes awhile for rookie receivers to grasp an NFL playbook, but I don’t see that happening with Strong. At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Strong has the body of an NFL receiver. As the draft nears, Strong will garner even more attention because he will likely have a great combine performance.
