Grading Each 2014 Lions Draft Pick This Season

The 2014 draft class for the Detroit Lions featured a lot of players drafted for positions of strength, mostly the defensive line and receivers. Unfortunately, not one of the eight draft picks made any significant contributions this season. Here are the grades for each 2014 draft pick for the Lions.

A tight end out of North Carolina, Eric Ebron caught just 25 passes for 248 yards and one touchdown as a first-round pick. Ebron did not record a game with five receptions or 50 yards receiving.

Kyle Van Noy: Second Round

A linebacker out of BYU, the Lions traded up to select Kyle Van Noy in the second round. Injured for most of the season, Van Noy appeared in only eight games, but looked rather lost when he saw the field. Van Noy recorded only six tackles the entire season.

A center from Arkansas, Travis Swanson was drafted in the third round to eventually replace Dominic Raiola. This season, Swanson was primarily used as a backup guard. Due to injuries, Swanson played in all 16 games and started five.

A defensive back out of Utah State, Nevin Lawson only appeared in two games before being placed on injured reserve. Lawson recorded just one tackle in those two games.

Another fourth-round pick, Detroit traded up to select Larry Webster, a defensive end out of Bloomsburg. A raw prospect, Webster did not see the field in 2014.

A fifth-round pick out of Princeton, Caraun Reid was a backup defensive tackle for most of the season. Reid appeared in 12 games, but only recorded two assisted tackles.

A wide receiver out of Notre Dame, T.J. Jones did not see the field in 2014 and was on injured reserve all season.

A kicker out of Boston College, Nate Freese was the biggest disappointment of this class. Freese appeared in just three games and made just one of four field-goal attempts. Freese was also released after three games.
