The San Diego Chargers head into the offseason looking to upgrade key positions in order to make a run at the playoffs next season. They were a good team last year, but their weaknesses showed when they played top competition. Here are some of their draft needs as they head into free agency.

The Chargers need to improve their offensive line, especially on the interior. They lost Nick Hardwick to retirement, and struggled last year to give Philip Rivers time and open up lanes in the running game. Depending on where they place Chris Watt and D.J. Fluker, the team will likely need to draft at least an offensive guard or a center.

The Chargers secondary was much improved last year, but they still need to add another quality cornerback to the mix. If the team is able to re-sign Brandon Flowers, then they will be starting two talented, but smaller cornerbacks on the outside. It would not hurt for the team to try to grab a taller one in the draft to give them more size.

3. Offensive Tackle

If the team moves D.J. Fluker to guard, then they will need to find a tackle early in the draft. There are several intriguing options that should be available when the Chargers pick in the first and second round. The team must upgrade their protection for Rivers if they are to be successful next year.

2. Defensive Line

The teams needs to strengthen their defensive line both at the nose tackle and defensive end position. There are some younger prospects in the organization, but the team must try to add more talent through the draft. They currently lack a lineman who can make plays behind the line of scrimmage.

The Chargers need to add another weapon on offense, whether it is at running back or wide receiver. They have several above average players at the skill positions, but the team needs a playmaker who can come through when they need it most. Adding a possible game breaker will only make it easier for Rivers.
